Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle is now confirmed to be coming to PS5 in Spring 2025, not long after it was revealed that the game was initially set to release as a timed exclusive later this year. The news was made official during yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live following numerous reports and rumors, and now Xbox head Phil Spencer has shed some light on the decision to bring the game to Sony’s console.
Apparently, this is all part of Xbox’s ongoing multi-platform plans, as outlined in a podcast earlier this year, and so far Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment have all been brought to new platforms.

During a live broadcast at Microsoft Gamescom 2024, Spencer was asked about Jones’ work on the PS5. The executive admitted that the appearance of the above four games was part of Xbox’s “learning”, and he said that he saw Xbox’s “franchises getting stronger and stronger” and that “Xbox console players are [numbers] This year’s levels are at an all-time high.”

He then mentioned that the pressure Microsoft has put on Xbox, which has laid off employees and closed studios this year, to deliver strong results after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard last year was also a factor. “We run a business,” he said. “Inside Microsoft, we have a high demand for giving back to the company because the level of support we get from the company is so high that we can do a lot of things.”
“So I looked at this [as]How can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platforms are growing across console, PC and the cloud. I think this will be a strategy that works for us.”
Spencer then added: “The last thing I want to say is [is that]As an industry, there’s a lot of pressure right now. It’s been growing for a long time, and now people are looking for ways to grow. As fans and players of games, we have to anticipate that more changes will happen to the way games are traditionally developed and released. It will change for all of us, but the end result has to be better games that more people can play. If we’re not focused on that, I think we’re focused on the wrong things.”
He concluded by saying that the “most important thing” for Xbox is its own health, the health of its platforms, and its “growing slate of games.”
