The identity of the mysterious game, revealed today at the Xbox Developer Direct, has sparked a lot of speculation. While most people assumed it came from a Japanese studio, few actually guessed what it might be.

Well, we now know it's none other than the new Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden 4 In fact, this is a game developed by Team Ninja and Platinum Games!

As part of Xbox's January Developer Direct, we visited the legendary Team Ninja studios, developers of the upcoming Ninja Gaiden. It's the team's next big project, and today we're getting our first look at it. Putting aside how unusual it is that it wasn't leaked, it's even more surprising that it was revealed on the Xbox stage.

What we saw was exactly what any Ninja Gaiden fan wanted. Tons of fast-paced combat, bloody action, and fluid melee combat. Everything is full of beauty after the rain. Even Hayabusa is back and seems to be playing the role of an opponent! All of this was accompanied by a great discussion about the game from the development team. Of course, the Ninja Gaiden series has a long history with Xbox, but Team Ninja is mostly about Sony's side of the business. Team Ninja has been considered a PlayStation studio lately, ever since the original Nioh and its sequel Nioh 2 . The Nioh game eventually came to PC, but never to Xbox. When Team Ninja did After releasing Wolong: Fallen Reign on Xbox, the studio's main project Rise of Ronin remains exclusive to PS5.

Rise of Ronin itself has a lot of interesting ideas, but ultimately takes the wrong lessons from Western open-world games. It delivers a diluted experience that won't satisfy long-time fans of the studio's excellent combat mechanics, or newcomers looking for a relaxing samurai simulator.

Aside from this new project, the Ninja Gaiden series seems to be enjoying a renaissance. Just recently, at The Game Awards 2024, retro game publisher Dotemu announced Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a new 2D action game from the studio behind the Blasphemous series.
