Who would have believed that? A recent Xbox update appears to have stirred up some of America’s conservative right. Explanations.
With the galloping energy price inflation happening in the US as well, Microsoft had the brilliant idea to provide an update to lower the energy consumption of your Xbox console. Microsoft in particular is redesigning its power system a bit to offer its consoles new options that allow them to reduce their consumption when they are idle. The giant even estimates that for two Xboxes using this feature 20 hours a day for a year, it’s a tree to plant. In short, an interesting choice for both the planet and the consumer’s wallet. But that doesn’t seem to please a section of the American conservative right ideologically.
Xbox becomes a target of part of the conservative movement
Elected Republicans, animators, and influential animators… Voices are being raised against Microsoft’s decision on its Xbox. In fact, the manufacturer’s choice is viewed as an assault on freedoms and the imposition of a waking culture on American youth. Instead, check out what you can read all over Twitter.
Fox News “woke up” SICK from Xbox and changed its power saving mode.
Earhardt: “Xbox has also announced that it will be woken up due to climate change.
Failla: “They try to get their children involved in climate policy earlier.”
E: “They attack the children”
Troy Nehhls, Republican-elect to the House of Representatives, states:
They want to take your guns.
You want to take your gas stoves.
And now they want to take your Xbox.
What’s next?
Ted Cruz, a well-known senator from Texas, jokes:
First the gas cookers, then your coffee, now they’re targeting your Xbox.
Conservatives therefore believe that this undermines the American way of life, which is known to want total freedom as its hallmark. Still, it’s no surprise that Microsoft wants to become carbon neutral as soon as possible, by the end of this decade. And to do this, the company has to get involved in all areas. In this case, the user is more of a winner by saving some on their bill at the end of the month.
