A few days ago, Xbox was controversial for a very specific reason, and it clearly didn’t go down well with gamers. Some of them are even angry.
Sometimes an argument can explode in an instant. Xbox just experienced this situation and players are really angry. But then what could the company have done to incur the wrath of the community? In fact, it has something to do with a seemingly innocuous message posted on X (formerly Twitter). However, not everything went as planned.
Xbox causes controversy with AI
The use of artificial intelligence is not viewed positively. For some people, what matters most is how you use it. You also have to be at least a little honest and make it clear every time that you used it to create, for example, an image. You’re starting to see where we’re going with this. On December 27th, Xbox wanted to “honor” independent games by posting a message on X. What was written doesn’t matter, it’s the image that accompanied the post that interests us. People were investigating it, and then tragedy struck.
A quick glance revealed that this work of art was not homemade. Far from it, even if it was clearly created by an AI. Simply zoom in on specific parts of the image to immediately see what’s wrong. The faces are distorted, there are objects that have no place there, in short, it was not sculpted by a human being. As a result, users became angry and did not hesitate to mock Xbox for its use of artificial intelligence.
If the post has since been removed, the damage is done. In itself, encouraging independence by being such a large company is a good deed. However, the ensuing controversy simply gave the impression that it was done in a hurry for “form” reasons. Let’s not forget that these methods involve artists in need who are not sought after for their skills and are simply pushed into the background in favor of an AI. This is not good advertising for Xbox.
The artists are angry
Apparently, artists are the first to express their dissatisfaction with Xbox. “ Nothing screams “I’m not interested in indie developers” quite like this.“ that the use of AI », « If you can’t hire an artist to promote, I highly doubt you will with independent developers “, we can read in particular. Currently, Microsoft has not yet commented on the situation. The community is waiting for an apology message explaining the reasons for this decision. In any case, it is tense for the manufacturer, who is unlikely to make the same mistake twice.
