The Xbox Series X/S, released at the end of 2020, is doing well so far despite ongoing supply shortages. Microsoft should be satisfied with the performance of the next-gen console.
The Redmond-based company has now confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S is the best-ever generation of Xbox consoles in terms of sales. According to this, no previous Xbox platform from Microsoft has sold more in a comparable time window than the Xbox Series X/S.
This circumstance is remarkable insofar as it is still not possible to serve a by no means insignificant demand for the console. Like the PS5, Microsoft is also struggling with supply bottlenecks with the Xbox Series X/S because the delivery cards are disrupted and there is a shortage of chips. If you want to buy one of the two platforms, you often find yourself at the mercy of a lack of supply and sometimes have to put up with long waiting times.
Despite everything, Microsoft has been able to produce enough consoles to sell more units in the time since the release in November 2020 than any other Xbox before. The company has now confirmed this to the New York Times. And the momentum of the fastest-selling Xbox of all time continues.
In the interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer emphasizes that the ongoing shortage of available consoles is currently due to increased demand; in any case, the number of units produced has not been reduced – not even in comparison to previous generations.
Demand skyrocketed in March and April 2020 with the corona pandemic, Spencer continued. Since then, the team has been working hard to meet the continued increase in demand.
