After Sony’s cancellation of Gamescom 2024 yesterday, Microsoft quickly cleared the air today and confirmed its participation, even with a list of games that will be shown.
Two of the major console manufacturers will not be attending Gamescom 2024 in August. Nintendo had already cancelled some time ago and Sony Playstation confirmed yesterday that it will again not be participating in the Cologne trade fair.
Now Microsoft has also clarified things and confirmed that Xbox (and PC) will definitely be part of Gamescom. But the list of games that will be shown from August 21 to 25 raises some questions.
First the good news: it seems that Microsoft will be represented with nine in-house titles from Xbox Game Studios, which of course also include Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. There are some top-class titles such as the upcoming Diablo 4 expansion Vessel of Hatred and the Obsidian role-playing game Avowed.
Firmly planned are:
A list that raises some questions, even though the press release states that more information about the Gamescom appearance will follow shortly. Because some titles that are actually within reach do not appear on the list.
Neither Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is mentioned, nor is STALKER 2, which is actually due to be released in September shortly after Gamescom, nor is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is also due to be released in 2024, missing from the list. And the new Flight Simulator 2024 is also conspicuous by its absence.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether the games will be shown after all or whether there are other reasons why a presence has not yet been announced. But especially with the titles planned for 2024, there is still a bad taste in the mouth as to whether the release dates will slip back after all.
