Xbox Series X will improve artificial intelligence and animations thanks to machine learning

After three months in which Microsoft has been slowly unraveling the capabilities of the Xbox Series X, those of Redmond yesterday unveiled the final specifications of its next-generation console, its materials, and manufacturing design. In terms of hardware, it was already intuited that it was a cutting-edge machine thanks to its 12 Tflops of graphic power, among other things, but Microsoft wants that in software matters it is also a benchmark in the sector thanks to new technologies dedicated to improving artificial intelligence. and animations.

In one of the child articles where Microsoft delves into unique features of Xbox Seies X, the company introduces DirectML, "a new feature within DirectX tools" that uses machine learning and 24 teraflops of floating performance 16-bit and more than 97 TOPS (or billions of operations per second) of 4-bit integer performance. As expected, this technology, which will be available soon for developers, will not only go one step further in terms of artificial intelligence or animations, but will also "significantly improve" the visual quality.

The thing is not there, because the new generation console from Microsoft will count by hardware decompression as part of its new architecture called Xbox Velocity Architecture. Apart from helping to save space on the SSD, which can be expanded with external cards, it is a way to free the CPU from data decompression processes so that it can focus on tasks such as improving the framerate of games.

Xbox Series X will come out for sale later this year, if the coronavirus does not prevent it.
