The creation of a new studio by industry veterans is always interesting to try and dream of what the future holds for us. It turns out that Firaxis alumni just started a brand new project.
Firaxis is the famous studio behind the Civilization series (from the third installment), but of course also XCOM. Veterans of the team have just formed their own studio, Bit Reactor, to focus on developing strategic turn-based titles. Co-founder and CEO Greg Foertsch proudly says:
We’ve assembled an incredible group of talented, experienced and dedicated developers to create rich storytelling and rock-solid gameplay mechanics to bring this genre – turn-based strategy – to its finest hour. A new golden age of turn-based games is upon us.
Good basics for Bit Reactor
The announcement of the creation of the Bit Reactor studio focuses heavily on the team’s accumulated experience with XCOM, but the “newbies” have also worked on Civilization and Elder Scrolls Online. The CEO himself has been with Firaxis for more than 20 years and was Artistic Director on XCOM and XCOM 2 from 2005 to 2019. So we are dealing with a man with a certain background and undisputed know-how in the field.
The turn-based strategy genre has capitalized on the success of the XCOM series to make a comeback, and Bit Raeactor’s ambitions are already clear: eventually winning the prestigious title of Game of the Year. For its part, the Firaxis studio is currently making a certain Marvel’s Midnight Suns itself.
