In an interview, Ubisoft officially confirms XDefiant’s player numbers for the first time and also takes a look into the future of the shooter.
After several delays, XDefiant finally launched a few weeks ago – and the shooter did not disappoint commercially. Unofficial reports said right at the time of release that XDefiant was the Ubisoft title in the company’s history to reach the one million player mark the f astest – within just 2.5 hours. After a week, the 8 million gamer mark is said to have been cracked. Now the company has confirmed concrete player numbers for the first time.
In an interview on the company’s own website, CEO Yves Guillemot spoke about several topics, including XDefiant. The company’s chairman confirmed that the shooter has now cracked the 11 million player mark.
“There is obviously still a lot of work to be done, but it was able to attract 11 million players in a short period of time,” Guillemot said of XDefiant. “And that number will continue to grow given all the work the team is doing to ensure that Season 1 adds a lot more to the existing experience.”
However, apart from this impressive mark, our English-speaking colleagues at Insider Gaming report that the 10 million mark was probably already reached in the first week of June. According to them, player growth has noticeably slowed since then. Either way: Ubisoft has high hopes for further growth thanks to the approaching Season 1, which starts on July 2, 2024. And Guillemot is also looking positively towards the future.
“Apart from the continuous updates with different experiences and optimized gameplay, I would love it as a serious esports title. Really, for a game like this, there are no limits in the future. And we have a fantastic team working on it and that also listens to and communicates with our players, and that’s crucial,” he concludes.
