Xiaomi could soon release a smartphone that Apple and Samsung have never made before. Only Google has already tried a similar cell phone, but failed.

Smartphone manufacturers are constantly working on innovations for their devices – also to gain an advantage over the competition. Leaked patent sketches have now emerged that suggest that Xiaomi could soon release a revolutionary smartphone – ahead of Samsung and Apple.
Like the fan blog XiaomiTime reports that the state intellectual property office in China has now published patent sketches for a new Xiaomi cell phone. The drawings show a candy bar smartphone that can be taken apart and put back together like Lego blocks.

The sketches show that the new cell phone will be removable – possibly in the middle of the display. However, it cannot be said with certainty whether the cell phone can actually be split in the middle of the display because the sketches are still too imprecise.

According to the drawing, the two halves, which could be reassembled like modular building blocks, should be able to be connected to each other so that the upper part of the cell phone is at a different angle to the lower part. However, it doesn’t look like the top part can rotate as a hinge is missing from the drawings. However, it could also be that this hinge is not part of the patent application.
If Xiaomi’s “Lego smartphone” gets a hinge, it could also be used like a flip phone – similar to the new Xiaomi Mix Flip.

Definitely a unique selling point in the industry
With such a cell phone, Xiaomi would secure a unique selling point in the smartphone sector, because even if Samsung is the top dog in foldables, the South Korean company has not yet built such a cell phone. And neither does Apple. Google once developed a similarly designed cell phone about 10 years ago, but never released it: the Google Project Ara.
This Google phone was modular in both design and technical components (camera, speakers, battery) and therefore also took the “take apart and put back together” approach – but even more advanced. Judging from the sketches, the new Xiaomi cell phone seems to be modular so far only in the arrangement of the two halves.
