Sega Announced the 2022 RGG Summit, an event entirely focused on underworld developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
The livestream will take place next week, September 14th, at 11am BST/12pm EST/6am EST and will be broadcast on the official Sega Twitch channel. RGG Studio didn’t mention any details on what we can expect during the livestream in the announcement tweet, it’s safe to say Underworld 8 will appear in the program.
We received our first impressions of the Yakuza 8 back in July, most of which were just a few screenshots. But according to the above screenshot, we can see that this will be a direct sequel Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the game’s protagonist, Ichiban, will return. We do know that Rakuten should live on as a turn-based RPG series, as game creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Kazuki Hosokawa said after the success of Like A Dragon.
It is worth noting that Nagoshi has left RGG Studio and continues to form his own studio, Nagoshi studioexist NetEaseThe creator of Yakuza recently stated that he wants his online game to be “like a Tarantino movie,” which certainly doesn’t sound too far from the kind of games he likes to make.
A new Judgment game may be announced, but RGG Studio is working on another yet-to-be-announced game, confirmed last year.
There may be some announcements next week beyond what RGG Studio is showing. The Tokyo Game Show will open on September 15, and there may be some news at that time. Konami has been teasing a new game in the “World’s Favorite Series,” apparently leading fans to immediately speculate that it’s a remake of the repeatedly leaked Silent Hill 2, but we’ll have to wait to see if it has a new Silent Hill game.
