You may have speculated that the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie will be set in the ’60s – and you’d be right!

Earlier this year, Marvel finally announced the cast for the Fantastic Four movie in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Based on the artwork released alongside the announcement, people initially questioned whether the movie would be set in the ’60s, as the movie had an overall medieval vibe and the helper robots looked like they were straight out of an old sci-fi movie. It turns out that everyone who had that thought was right, as head of the Marvel Universe Kevin Feige confirmed as much in the first episode of the new Official Marvel Podcast (yes, I know there’s a podcast for everything now). Not only that, but after sharing another artwork of the Human Torch flying over New York City, some fans noticed that the city looked a bit futuristic and nothing like the New York they’re familiar with in the Marvel Universe.

In turn, fans have wondered if this means the film will be set in an alternate universe, and Feige seemed to hint at that very scenario during the same podcast. “So it’s a period piece,” Feige shared. “We released another piece of art where Johnny Storm is flying through the air, drawing four symbols, and there’s a cityscape in the corner of the image. And a lot of smart people noticed that that cityscape doesn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, and it doesn’t look exactly like the New York of our world in the ’60s. Those are very smart observations.”

Obviously, this isn’t an outright confirmation of anything, but it does give us a rough idea of how the Fantastic Four will tie into the rest of the Marvel Universe. And with that, there are a lot of big names joining the cast, including Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Eben Moss-Bachrach (Bear) as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

It will be a while before the trailer is released, but you will be able to watch it in theaters on July 25, 2025.
