Star Wars Outlaws’ creative director has seen your complaints about some of the early stealth missions and has promised some changes.
Perhaps one of the most annoying mechanics in gaming is stealth. Don’t get me wrong, good stealth games like Metal Gear Solid or Dishonored make sneaking around fun, but when stealth isn’t the focus it can get a little frustrating at times, especially when you have a split-second failure. Star Wars: Outlaws is the latest game to fall victim to this, but thankfully it sounds like some improvements will be coming in the near future via a patch.

GamesRadar recently asked the game’s creative director Julian Gerighty about the controversial instant-fail stealth missions and what the plans are for them. “So, I mean, you’re probably thinking of one of the early missions in Mirogana, which is pretty challenging,” the developer said. “To me, that’s a mistake and we’re going to work on improving that.” He continued: “I don’t think that means removing fail states completely, but I do think there are a million low-hanging fruits that we can make more interesting and accessible.”
Gerighty believes it’s important that the game doesn’t feel unfair, but he admitted “Today, I felt it was unfair. Believe it or not, that was not our intention. It was more of a problem that crept in over the last week or so, and we’re already correcting it for a patch that’s going to be out in probably 10 days.”
Sure, 10 days seems like a long time to wait, but hey, at least change is coming – or if you’ve already completed the task, you have bragging rights for beating them when they were much worse (but don’t be that person, no one likes that person).
Star Wars Outlaws was released late last month, and our own Jim was very positive about it, even giving it 4/5 stars in his review, saying it “isn’t going to win any Game of the Year awards. But it’s sure to win a lot of hearts.”
