More than two years after The Batman was released, The Penguin TV series finally has a release date.
We’ve known for a while that The Penguin is coming to theaters sometime in September of this year, but the exact release date has been up in the air. Luckily, you don’t have to wait any longer to find out when you can watch the spinoff, as during the San Diego Comic-Con panel about The Penguin, it was revealed that the show will be available on Max on September 19th. That’s less than two months away, so there’s not a lot of time left until it hits theaters. Luckily, that wasn’t the only information revealed at the panel, as The Batman director Matt Reeves was also in attendance, and he talked about the upcoming sequel.

Firstly, Batman Part II is set to start filming next year, and Alfred himself, Andy Serkis, has previously said that Reeves said they needed to put Colin Farrell’s Penguin “in a certain place,” which is clearly a hint that the Penguin will appear in the sequel. I guess we’ll start to understand exactly where that place is when the show starts in September, but how this will play out in the sequel to Batman we’ll have to wait until 2026 to find out, as the film was delayed a full year in March of this year.

Reeves also recently unveiled a name for his Batman universe, which has nothing to do with the new DCU continuity that James Gunn is currently building (of which the upcoming animated series Monster Squad is a representative). The “Batman Epic Crime Saga” will apparently include the movies and The Penguin, but there are plans for more TV shows as well. Those plans are still a secret for now, but hey, Batman is awesome, so you can get me on board with whatever more shows the team is working on.
