Who doesn't love a battle pass? Well, if you were planning on participating in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Squid Game crossover event, you're in for a treat, which starts today, January 3rd, and runs until January 24th.
You see, it technically comes with not one, but two battle passes, a regular one and a premium one, all of which are loaded with goodies that will tell you what you're actually doing in People shot in the face You love TV shows about red lights, green lights. Is this a battle pass too much for hardcore CoD players who are used to battle passes? Well, it seems it depends on who you ask.

First, deets. As revealed in a blog post announcing the event's arrival, it brings new Red Light and Green Light multiplayer modes, as well as the inevitable zombie brothers, Death Ray and Green Light.
As you battle through the game, you'll progress through the Squid Game Event Pass – which features two different tracks. There is a regular free version and a premium version, the latter of which costs 1,100 COD points, equivalent to $9.99/£8.39. The premium version includes things like the “Front Man” operator as its ultimate mastery reward, while the free version includes several Squid Game player operator skins among other goodies.

“While every player can progress along the free reward track and unlock items, the second premium reward track in the event pass offers even more,” Activision writes. “Purchasing the premium track grants the ability to unlock additional themed rewards, Includes instant rewards awarding the “High Authority” XM4 Assault Rifle blueprint as well as the Knife, GS45 Pistol and Saug SMG blueprints as well as concussion grenade gear skins, finishing move, “Throw” emote, “Who's Left” talking gun screen and more! “
Are players comfortable with the idea that this is the first time this is happening? Well, not a lot on Twitter and Reddit, with one user on the latter joking: “We're getting the battle pass in between battle passes now.”
On the other hand, some players seem happy to write off this premium track as something that people shouldn't bother buying if they're not a fan of it, rather than something that's too annoying. As ever, the debate has been raised about whether microtransactions are acceptable if the items behind them are just cosmetics.
“The Premium Pass contains as much or more content than the 2400+ CoD Point bundles currently in the store,” user SuperRSM wrote. “Paying $1100 and having to play the game feels more reasonable to me than a lot of them could have done with it as A $20-$30 bundle is added to the store and no one is going to treat it like a store bundle and decide if it's worth it. “
It’s worth noting that in addition to these passes, the Squid Game event also comes with a few store bundles – Pink Guards Tracer Pack, The VIPs Tracer Pack, and Young-hee Tracer Pack. Pricing for these products does not appear to have been announced yet.
