There is a very wise saying that appearances can be deceiving and that same thing could be perfectly applied to Yoda. The first time we saw the legendary Jedi Master from the universe of Star Wars It was in the Episode V: The Empire Strikes Backwhen Luke travels to the planet Dagobah to be trained by him, but due to his behavior and his slow movements it seems that the young Skywalker has wasted his time traveling there.
It doesn’t take long to prove that he is actually more powerful than he appears, something that was more than reaffirmed over the years with the release of Episode II: Attack of the Clones and of the Episode III: Revenge of the Sithbecause in both films he appears fighting and performing perfectly with incredibly fast and agile attacks. However, he ends up being defeated by Emperor Palpatine, which leads him to exclaim that he sees forced into exile to escape the threat of the Empire.
So if the Jedi and Sith are able to sense the Force, how come no one managed to find Yoda and learn that he had hidden on Dagobah until the end of his days? Because in none of the feature films is there any kind of mention of this fact, although It doesn’t mean that there is no logical explanation.
The truth is that at first, when the saga began to take its first steps, it was believed that Dagobah was Yoda’s home planet, but it was a book that was in charge of delving into this whole mysterious story. Precisely, it has just been a year since its publication, because it was on August 29, 2023 when it went on sale. From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedian anthology of 40 short stories written by different authors and as a tribute to the Episode VI: Return of the Jedi for its 40th anniversary.
Among all these interesting stories, there is one in particular that is worth paying attention to. It is a story that was written by Akemi Dawn Bowman who goes by the name of The Light That Fallswhich stars a dragon snake that resides on this planet called Bright-Eyes, who is the one who narrates all the events.
If you are one of those who have seen the Episode Vyou will know that in a sequence of the film, during Luke’s training, he enters into a rather sinister cave
These facts have great relevance in this whole matter, because in the aforementioned story it is explained that the darkness that emanated from this cave was of such magnitude that Yoda was in charge of keeping it at bay thanks to his union with the Force. Therefore, he managed to achieve a balance between both sides that allowed him to generate a neutral point so that the Dark Side and the Force that he gave off would not be perceived.
From all this, it is more than clear that the choice of Dagobah as a place to reside in exile was totally intentional. As dangerous as the Dark Side may be, it must be admitted that in This situation helped Yoda survive
In the previously mentioned book all these events are perfectly narrated and even what happens after his tragic death in Episode VIWhen Luke travels there to complete his Jedi training, Yoda tells him that he is now fully prepared to face Darth Vader, as it is his destiny, and that he does not need to teach him anything else. He then dies, and it is then that Luke becomes the last Jedi Knight in the galaxy.
Well, Bright-Eyes explains that Yoda’s death caused the balance he had achieved to be broken forever, so Dagobah was plunged into complete darkness spreading everywhere, so there is no doubt that the Jedi Master was able to control the Dark Side until the last seconds of his life. In short, an excellent explanation that solves one of the greatest mysteries of the saga.
