You can earn Diablo 4’s premium currency in the battle pass, but not enough to buy the next one

There’s a lot to look forward to with the launch of Diablo IV’s first season. Unlike the older style of Diablo season, Villainous Season will introduce a more traditional battle pass, new content, new items, and the type of content drops you’d expect from Call of Duty, Fortnite, and more.

well maybe not That That’s a lot of content, but it’s still the season and battle pass style that modern players are familiar with from games on all other major live services. Of course, there are expectations, and the ability to earn premium currency as part of the battle pass is one of the rewards that many are looking forward to seeing.

Take Call of Duty, another Activision Blizzard game, for example. By completing all levels of the Battle Pass, players can earn enough premium currency to buy the next game. Considering how much Diablo 4’s monetization model was modeled after Call of Duty’s, you’d think the same would be true here.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Blizzard confirmed in a Forbes interview that the Season 1 Battle Pass does include some Platinum (the game’s premium currency), but not enough to buy the next one.

This is interesting because the “Season of Vicious” battle pass will be the first opportunity for players to earn Platinum outside of buying Platinum.

That being said, Diablo 4 isn’t the first game to include some premium currency in the battle pass, but it won’t be enough to pay for the next game either. Fortnite, for example, does the same thing, but you could argue that the Fortnite battle pass is worth the money.

In fact, Blizzard realizes that Season of the Villain’s content might feel a little thin because it’s built alongside the game. Future seasons will be even more interesting in that regard, but we’ll obviously need to see for ourselves before we can judge this claim.

Vicious Season starts on July 20th and will last for 12 weeks. Blizzard believes that even casual players have plenty of time to complete the Battle Pass. While everyone needs to start a new character to experience seasonal content, there are a few things you can do today to kick off the season with a massive power boost.
