The prolific modder who brought Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes to VR has gone a step further, bringing the Resident Evil universe to a virtual reality headset near you. This time around, Praydog has updated and added some already impressive mods to bring Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil and Resident Evil Village to PCVR with a full 6 degrees of freedom.
Unlike a flat-screen experience, Praydog integrates full 6DOF VR support, full VRIK (so you’re no longer a floating hand) and motion controller support for every game. According to the mods Github page, motion controller support is still in the works, but for now, the new controls can already make the experience more immersive.
These motion controls now allow Resident Evil 7 and Village players to use their hands freely in the game. You can wave your arms wildly in front of yourself or anyone else to your heart’s content. This also amplifies the level of immersive combat, so escaping from the werewolf will be more chaotic.
While Resident Evil 7 has a VR version, it’s exclusive to PlayStation and lacks many of the simple features that Praydog has integrated into his PC version of the mod. So playing Resident Evil 7 in VR might not be new to you, but I assure you, these mods refresh the experience.
That being said, this is also the first time we’ve seen Steam’s Game of the Year winner, Resident Evil Village, in VR. While it saddens many that Village won’t know the PSVR version its predecessor received, Praydog continues to do what he does best and bring us a dedicated VR mod. Epi!
You can try these mods for yourself on Praydog’s Github, and if you want to support his more mod work, you can also support his Patreon. Note, however, that the mods for Resident Evil 7 and The Village are far from perfect. Either way, they offer a fun, amazing experience (whether due to combat or stunning scenery), but they’re not without the occasional glitch. The mod is still a work in progress, report feedback on the Github page!
If you’re not a PC gamer but want to experience the madness of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 are coming to next-gen consoles later this year! In the meantime, let us know what kind of Resident Evil experience you’d like to see next in VR.
