Gaming News You can now pay $250 to win it all! This video game is changing its marketing strategy…
It’s not easy to develop a game that offers content over several years, and many studios and publishers have lost focus on the service game. Battle Pass, Season Pass, cosmetic bonuses, perks, scripted content, everything needs to be thought of to encourage player loyalty. But sometimes it’s too much.
Escape From Tarkov: A new and very expensive edition announced
Since 2016, fans of tactical FPS have turned their attention to Escape From Tarkov, the aim of which is to get as close to simulation as possible without losing the purely gameplay aspect. After an alpha phase that lasted a few months, The title has entered beta and has been further improved. The release of 1.0 is scheduled for later this year, after which the studio will move forward. But for now, The rag is burning between the studio and the players.
In addition to the base game, Battlestate offers Since 2016 there has been an Edge of Darkness edition, which offers you numerous advantages for just under 200 dollars including taxes which overall accelerated the transition to high-level content. However, the content description also indicated that players chose this edition would have free access to all subsequent DLCs. All we knew was that sales of the Edge of Darkness edition would stop as the official release of Escape From Tarkov approached. The title is nearing its release date, according to the studio The availability of this special edition ended on January 7th at last, without causing the slightest excitement within the community.
However, things took a completely different turn on April 25th when Battlestate Games took place revealed a brand new edition of the game titled The Unheard Edition. Presented on video, this edition has been sold 250 dollars additional tax full of content that is a large part of the active community is called pay-to-win. We’re talking bigger gear bags, a better reputation that unlocks real advantages in the game through a specific character, or even a unique melee army (which wouldn’t be that much). But what really upset the players was the presence of an exclusive permanent co-op PvE mode, insensitive to the next two scheduled resets. However, if you looked closely, it was the buyers of the old edition should get all DLCs for free.
DLC, not DLC: Battlestate stumbles but responds
Problem, this new PvE mode didn’t seem to be part of the deal. Suffice it to say, players rushed to the official Discord and the anger was so intense Many salons simply closed. The same goes for Reddit, where players suggest a strategy.unacceptable“et”disrespectful“I’m even thinking about taking legal action for breach of contract between the studio and players. Before the talks stopped, said Discord community manager Daniel Mavlyuberdinov tried to provide an explanation about the nature of this PvE mode. A reason that apparently didn’t convince anyone:
DLC means additional downloadable content. PvE is a feature and a game mode. Just because you all want it to be DLC doesn’t mean it is. This is the mode of the new edition of Escape From Tarkov.
Also note that in the details of this Unheard Edition We’re talking about priority matchmaking during six months. Yes, for several months, buyers can snap up this new edition faster than the others. Given the dissatisfaction, particularly from owners of the Edge Of Darkness (EoD) version, The studio reworked its copy :
(…) The PvE mode is entirely based on a separate network infrastructure, as for the most part you only play in closed mode on our servers. At this point it is not possible to offer it to all EoD players – we simply do not have the resources to do so at the moment. We note your dissatisfaction and have decided that when the game is released, the PvE mode will be available for free to all owners of the EoD version, when the server infrastructure has been improved to the required capacity.
The studio therefore reacted quickly, but it remains to be seen whether this will be enough.
