If you’re looking for a good excuse to replay Final Fantasy VII Remake, using the real Buster Sword is the way to go.
Well, while you can’t easily get your own nemesis sword to do that, streamer, YouTuber, and controller maker SuperLouis64 has made it possible to play Final Fantasy VII Remake with a real-life nemesis sword. Whether you should is an entirely different question, but SuperLouis64 has it, and that’s what matters.
Finish, #FF7R Now fully playable with real BUSTER SWORD! I just fixed the last bug in the prototype dealing with protection.
Full video after the weekend, but I’m very proud of this release. I built my own part and it works on PC and PS5 LETS GOOOOO pic.twitter.com/3OSatBfzgy

You can see it in action above, and it’s a lot of fun, although obviously very physically demanding. SuperLouis64 plans to release a full-length video next week, but small clips of the sword in action show Louis exhaustedly trying to swing a full-size replica of the iconic sword, which doesn’t look easy.
Essentially, it looks like a giant, semi-precise Wii mote, with the swing corresponding to, well, the swing, and Louis doing Cloud’s guard position results in the same. The guard is actually the last bug the streamer has to fix, and when done, it’s now technically possible to play the entire game with the sword. Of course, if you decide to set it up after watching Louis’ video, keep in mind that the game is over 30 hours long.
Louis is quite familiar with weird controllers, having made an actual book controller to play the role of the scholar in Final Fantasy XIV, and more notably, playing Elden Ring with bananas.
For now, of course, all we can do is rewatch Final Fantasy VII Remake normally, or play the recently released Reunion Core. After all, we’ll have to do something while we wait for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a follow-up game that looks sure to continue the trend of Final Fantasy VII’s story doing as it pleases.
