Play from wherever you want, when you want and, starting in November, whatever you want. Xbox Cloud Gaming is Microsoft’s cloud gaming and is still in beta. The experience is not optimal depending on the games, but its biggest barrier has always been clear: it was only possible to play the titles included in the Xbox Game Pass catalog. In November that is going to change and, as you will see, the moment chosen will be key.
As reported from The Vergestarting next month it will be possible to play through Xbox Cloud Gaming to the games we already ownwhether or not they are included in Game Pass. Specific details still need to be given, but it is a feature promised years ago and will arrive practically coinciding with the opening of the Xbox store on Android devices. Microsoft does not give a stitch without a thread. What does this mean?
To begin with, and we must take this into account, until today even if a game was optimized to be played in the Xbox cloud and enabled touch controls, when leaving the Game Pass catalog it could only be played if we bought it and it was installed on our console or PC. By extension, it could no longer be played from mobile phones, web browsers, Smart TVs, Amazon Firestick, etc. Next month, and according to The Verge, the number of compatible and available titles will be thousands of games.
However, and like all Xbox news, the step will be taken in a controlled manner: the first to receive this function in November will be those who are registered in the Xbox Insider program
From here on, a basic note: for Xbox Cloud Gaming to enable playing in the cloud requires that the title in question be linked to our account (we have purchased it) or be part of the Game Pass video game service. In other words, and as obvious as it may sound, we will not be able to play titles that are not ours in the cloud. And that’s where Microsoft hits the mark by enabling its own store on new devices and enabling direct purchases on new devices.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is one of the biggest claims of Game Pass Ultimate
An interesting move that, if executed well, can once again break the deck, which will be a spring in the value of Game Pass and which, coincidence or not, will more or less coincide with the launch of PS5 Pro by PlayStation. What is clear is that the philosophies of both companies seem to be at opposite extremes.
