Sadly for those who were excited about the prospect of Josh Brolin returning as Hal Jordan, the actor has apparently decided not to return to the Green Lantern series.
Last week, it was reported that the former Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Thanos, or to be honest, Josh Brolin, had been approached to star in DC’s Green Lantern series as the inimitable Hal Jordan. However, this was only an offer, not an outright confirmation, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has apparently passed on the series. The Hollywood Reporter did not reveal other details about Brolin’s decision, so it’s unclear why he passed – this would have been his fifth time playing a comic book character on screen, so it’s possible that he decided not to take on this kind of role again.

Apparently, DC Films is on the hunt for another Hal Jordan, and they may have some ideas already. Industry insider Jeff Snyder claims in his column The Insneider (paid) that if Brolin turns down the role, both Star Wars’ Ewan McGregor and Interstellar’s Matthew McConaughey are being considered for the role. So if Snyder is right, you can expect either of them to reprise the classic comic book character.
There’s not much information available about the series yet, but an official synopsis has been released: “The series tells the story of new recruit John Stewart and Green Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two interstellar police officers who are drawn into a dark Earth mystery while investigating a murder in the heartland of America.” There’s no casting news yet for fan-favorite Green Lantern incarnation John Stewart, but considering the show won’t be released for some time, DC still has plenty of time to find the right person.
