The Simpsons: Hit and Run Never received a re-release, so it’s still stuck on PS2, but at least Disney will now let you listen to the soundtrack on Spotify.
Apparently, through the power of YouTube, the soundtrack to The Simpsons: Hit and Run has been available for a while now, but it hasn’t been officially released in any capacity. As noticed by the twitter account 20th Century Fox out of contextthat seems to have changed, as the entire soundtrack is available on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music (thanks to Eurogamer).
While tweets sharing the news make it feel like the launch just happened, the soundtrack is already available on the streaming service at least since last september, fans didn’t realize until now because it was a very quiet addition. Maybe Disney didn’t want the 20-year-old game’s staggering number of fans to overpay them? An odd choice, but if they don’t want the money, that’s their responsibility.
Even though the soundtrack was released in September, its timing is still very good, because this September marks the 20th anniversary of the Grand Theft Auto genre. Fans really want to re-release the game, as there are often new projects trying to bring it back to life, such as remaking old classics of old games in Unreal Engine.
Everyone’s favorite publisher, EA, still owns the rights to any Simpsons game, most recently the Farmville-style Simpsons, but the last major release was 2007’s The Simpsons game. The family (Bob’s Burger’s Belcher family first) hasn’t received a big new game in a while, as interest in the series isn’t as high as it used to be.
