As much as fans may want her to be Zelda, Zelda is unfortunately not playable in The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom Tears – but that doesn’t mean she won’t appear in future games .
Ever since the first trailer for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released, fans have been speculating whether or not Zelda herself will actually be playable in the main series games. The biggest proof she can play is one simple thing: She cut her hair (short hair means it doesn’t run across her body). It doesn’t help that Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has been oddly coy about whether she’s playable or not. Unfortunately, she’s effectively unplayable for those who wish her on. But Aonuma said that doesn’t mean she won’t compete in different competitions.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Aonuma shared his thoughts on the possibility of making Zelda a playable character. “We felt that the most important thing was the idea of gameplay,” Aonuma said. “If it turns out that having Zelda as that character best suits the particular gameplay we’re trying to achieve, then that might be a direction we can take. Of course, having said that, since we’re not sure what the next gameplay experience will be, We can’t say what’s next for Zelda.”
Obviously, this doesn’t exactly confirm that she’ll be available in the next game, or even any games after that, but it does at least mean that Nintendo is open to the idea. Here’s my bit of advice to Nintendo: you should. She’s arguably the protagonist of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but she deserves the full Zelda experience – it’s her name after all!
