Robots designed to “backfill” Battlefield 2042′EA stated that the 128 player servers cannot be shut down, and if you are offline, you will not be able to use them for games.
It turns out that the disadvantage of having up to 128 players in the game is that sometimes your lobby is quite empty and requires robots to fill it. We already know that “Battlefield 2042” will use robots to fill empty servers, but in a recent game update, the developer DICE revealed that you can’t turn off the robots.
DICE said in a blog post: “Unless the game is still filling or almost empty, you won’t encounter more AI soldiers than players,” then explained that real players will replace AI when they join the game robot.
If you are not too keen on going head-to-head with AI, then there are at least some benefits. First, AIs cannot be experts (meaning they are just ordinary enemies), and second, they cannot use the expert abilities reserved for human players. Judging from the lines, they are cannon fodder.
“You will see [AI soldiers] Perform certain tasks, such as using the vehicle call system and contacting the vehicle or capturing targets,” DICE explained.
“Although they can’t use Wingsuits, they do have the ability to decide whether to fight with you through enemy fire, flanks, throwing grenades, or even resurrecting downed teammates.”
If you want to experience the full teamwork battlefield known for the series, your robot ally may not be ideal, but at least this means that if you just want to jump into a private server, you can play single-player or cooperative games.
And, to be honest, in the months before and after the release, you really won’t encounter so many empty servers—especially because the cross-game and cross-over process of “Battlefield 2042” is in progress. In addition, due to technical limitations, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game reduced the server size to 64 players.
Battlefield 2042 released on October 22 in order to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Players who pre-order the PlayStation or PC Gold Edition and Ultimate Edition can access the game as early as October 15.
