You know that meme? The one with the dog, surrounded by fire, saying “this is fine” despite all the undesirable things happening around him? It’s a popular little cartoon that has become the most popular reaction image on the internet. For most memes, that would be the end of it. But the original creator of the meme, in partnership with Numskull Games, is making a new game called This is good: maximum responsebased on the dog “Ask the Dog” and his battles with various nasty creatures.
The news was recently announced on YouTube and social media, with a short announcement video announcing that the game’s Kickstarter will go live later this month, September 26th. The page is live, but you can’t put money into the game just yet. However, it does provide some background information on the project and reveals the specific genre of the game through an opening introduction from comic creator KC Green.

“Hi everyone! I’m KC Green, the creator of the comic strip Gunshow, which spawned the meme This is Fine, which features a dog in a hat named Question Hound. [denies] The flames around him,” Green wrote, “you may have seen them.
“And now! I’ve teamed up with the fine folks at Numskull Games to create a classic, old-school platformer where Question Hound travels deep into the subconscious to battle the same monsters and demons that exist inside all of our heads. These creatures feed on the fears and anxieties of everyday life! QH has had enough, and so should you!
“Run, jump, and use your new skills to explore the crowded brain of the Problem Hound and help him fight off the nasty stuff! Help him stay away from the waves of depression! Shine a light on his darkest fears! Maybe we can all learn a few coping skills in the process? Or at least enjoy a short break with a great game. Either way, please consider helping us make this project a reality when it launches!”
Numskull Games is an independent game publisher based in the UK that has released a variety of interesting small games. You may have heard of Coffee Talk, although AI the Somnium Files is another popular game under its wing. If you are interested in platformers and/or meme culture, this game is worth keeping an eye on.
