Game News You never noticed it, but this Nintendo character has changed with each of his appearances for 20 years
With all the licenses Nintendo owns, it’s no wonder that many characters’ appearances change over time. However, there is one very special person whose appearance systematically changes with each of his appearances!
20 years is the number of years Nintendo has changed Yoshi’s appearancethe little green dinosaur and faithful companion of Mario and one of the most popular characters in the universe, as pointed out by a user on X (Twitter). Of course, Yoshi is not the only one who has changed over time, we think of characters like Link, Mario, Samus, Marth or even Pikachu. Changes that for some are minimal, while for others are drastic.
A transformation in the changing times!
For Yoshi, his appearance changes with each game release. A systematic modification, but very minimal, because you have to look really closely at the character to notice the slightest change, as it can go unnoticed. This can be recognized, for example, by his skin color, his nose, his shoes, his tail or even his body shape.
There’s a madman at Nintendo who keeps updating this Yoshi rendering from 2004. And he doesn’t reuse it, mind you, he changes it every time.

Also, you should know that Yoshi’s appearance wasn’t always what we know today. In fact, when he first appeared in Super Mario World in 1990, he was slightly taller than the Yoshi we know. It had a longer neck and smaller, dinosaur-like hands. And a little anecdote: The character was originally planned to be a variant of the Koopa race. One idea that is not retained but explains the slight similarity between the Yoshis is the Koppa. Eventually his long neck is forgotten and his arms are lengthened, giving him the cuter appearance that has made him famous over the years.
A rejuvenation treatment that will not stop!
But to get back to these changes: It was in November 2004, during the release of Mario Party 4 in Japan Yoshi’s long transformation began over the years. A funny coincidence, because we will soon find Yoshi at the new Mario Party scheduled for October 17, 2024, namely Super Mario Party Jamboree. One thing is for sure, is that Yoshi’s appearance will probably not remain unchanged So much so that Nintendo will feel the need to make small changes to its favorite dinosaur, giving it a certain unique look in each game it appears in.
