There are very good adaptations of video games to the anime format and then, on a completely different scale, there is Street Fighter II, The Movie. A masterpiece from top to bottom and from side to side, but also an example of how to bring a phenomenon born in video games to the small screen, to movie theaters… and even go all the way around. and back to video games. For sample: Street Fighter 6’s mind-blowing homage to the movie. And beware, it seems that there is also a little bit of Dragon Ball in the game.
Let’s put ourselves in context: on the occasion of the first State of Play of 2023, Capcom closed the final list of fighters by presenting those already announced as property Zangief, Lily y Cammy. Veterans of the series debuted new looks (although they’ll be able to wear their classic outfits) and in the process, showcased loads of new, completely original techniques or evolved versions of the old ones.
This also applies to the case of Lily, the new fighter, since she directly inherits almost the entire repertoire of T. Hawk. However, of all the new techniques and attacks there is one that stands out above the rest: Cammy’s new Super Arts. Two techniques that, as we will see, are capable of taking the lives of their rivals if executed with sufficient precision.
Super Art 1: The Killer Hooligan Suplex from the Street Fighter II Movie
Cammy and Bison have possibly been the fighters who have inherited the most elements from street fighter ii movie In the case of the British with the feline look, we have seen her wearing Shadaloo’s red cape in countless games, as well as gestures, phrases and movements. The lethal version of his Hooligan Suplex.
The premise starts with a twisting grip on the neck of his target, carried out on the fly, and which is continued and later finished off by a graceful fall after turning around doing a handstand on his victim’s own shoulders. Not before destroying the neck and both knees from the back of the legs.
The original movement originates from the street fighter movie, where a Cammy subjected to the mental manipulation of Shadaloo acts as a lethal assassin and, through this technique, takes the life of a diplomat. Something that you can see in greater detail below.
Logically, Street Fighter it’s not Mortal Kombat and, like when performing Zangief’s powerful spin grabs, the most we can hope for is an explosion of colors on the screen and, should he run low on health, a few seconds of rest on the ground. However, The fun doesn’t end here.
Super Art 2: That kick is typical of an Android!
The second of Cammy’s new super special techniques, also without an official name yet, does not seem to come so much from the Street Fighter II movie, but from a cult manganime with some similarities: Dragon Ball Z.
The cinematic in question is 100% original. Cammy knocks down and leaves her enemy on her knees until she leaves him completely defenseless. Finally, and now with his back to the enemy, he proceeds to give him the coup de grace: a kick that crosses his neck. With everything, and thanks to the magic of videogames, your target’s head will still be on your shoulders.
The inspiration? Well, Cammy’s new appearance and hairstyle are inevitably reminiscent of Android number 18 from Dragon Ball, but the shot is practically a copy of the coup de grace that her brother, number 17, executed against Dr. Gero in the play of Akira Toriyama.
Will we see new tributes to other manganimes in Street Fighter 6? If we are honest with you, we take it for granted. It does not stop here.
Street Fighter 6 launch will offer lots of individual, online and competitive modes, classic games and even a story mode in which, by the way, we can create our own fighter (or fantasy being) and learn the movements of the World Warriors in the game, such as the Ryu’s projectiles or Chun Li’s roundhouse kicks. Will we be able to execute these killing techniques as well? In a couple of months we will leave doubts.
Like all great fighting games, Street Fighter 6 will be available in time to receive the summer: its departure is scheduled for on June 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S and PC through three different editions. Having seen what has been seen, some tremendous battles are coming!
