With the S7 series, Roborock had pretty much the best (and most expensive) in its portfolio that can be found on the market for smart vacuum cleaners. Now the Chinese manufacturer is following up with the next generation and wants to take its models to a new level.
Roborock brought three models with it, which were presented at CES 2023. However, it is not the vacuum robot itself that most of the differences between the models are. Instead, the deviations can be found at the various charging stations.
Either way: it will not be cheap if you want to call one of the new S8 robots your own. Because even for the basic version, prices are over 600 dollars due.
If that’s already too much for you, you might find what you’re looking for in our buying guide for models under 500 dollars.

Roborock S8: Three new vacuum robots
The three models are called Roborock S8, S8+ and S8 Pro Ultra. S8 and S8+ are identical and differ only in the base station. While the S8 has to make do with a pure charging station and appears for 699 dollars RRP, the S8+ offers a simple suction station that empties the dust container. Additional costs for this: 200 dollars.
The S8 Pro Ultra not only offers a fully-fledged cleaning station with dust extraction, dirty water collection, mop cleaning and filling system for the water tank. Also new is the hot air cleaning for the damp mop housed in the station.
On the robot itself, the Pro Ultra differs from the S8(+) with an automatic and higher lifting brush and a larger form factor. It also has a smaller water tank because it can be filled automatically at the cleaning station.

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra should do all the cleaning for you
Why S8 should be better than S7
Compared to the previous generation, all three models can also come up with some new features. This includes, among other things, increasing the suction power from 5,100 to 6,000 Pascal. In addition, a double rubber roller should both ensure better cleaning and better protection against tangled hair.
Since the wiping modules can now be raised by five or six centimeters, the protection of long-bristled carpets should also be better. With the previous models, the modules could still be ra ised by a maximum of four centimetres. When returning to the station, the Roborock S8 should now raise the mopping brush to prevent dirt from being spread and damage to the device.
Another improvement can be found in Roborock’s VibraRise technology. This sonic wiping technology from the manufacturer is now said to provide up to 3,000 wiping movements per minute and, thanks to a second vibration module, to become even more efficient.
Roborock S8: prices and release date
The three models are scheduled to appear in March 2023 and, according to Roborock, will then also be available in Europe retail. They have not announced an exact date at this time.
As already mentioned, an RRP of 699 dollars is due for the basic variant S8. If you want to buy the Roborock S8+ with a suction station, you have to pay 899 dollars. The premium model S8 Pro Ultra with a full cleaning station, on the other hand, will be available for 1,499 dollars.
Also not cheap, but all the more luxurious: the direct predecessor model S7 Pro Ultra. Mirco looked at this in a test.
