While initially guided mainly by the lure of profit, Joel will gradually become attached to Ellie as they cross the United States. This actually reminds him of his own daughter, whom he lost at the beginning of the epidemic. And when they finally arrive in South Lake City, the famous headquarters of the militia, The hero learns that in order to produce the famous vaccine, an operation is performed on his protégé that will kill him instantly. Joel does not want to lose his adopted daughter and refuses to relive his trauma and decides to Kill the fireflies to save them. James Sunderland, Silent Hill 2
In this second work, James joins Silent Hill after mysteriously receiving a letter from his wife, who died almost three years ago. When he arrives in the city, he meets various strange characters, including the sultry Maria, the spitting image of his wife Mary. Relentlessly pursued by a horde of monsters led by the terrifying Pyramid Head, he finally reaches the city hotel. There he discovers a cassette tape with disturbing content. The latter actually shows James suffocating his sick wife with a pillow.
The question then arises as to the reason for such an act. Did he do it to shorten Mary’s suffering or to shorten his own? Whatever the answer to this question, it does not change the fact that he is indeed the perpetrator of the crime. Silent Hill then turned into a purgatory, reminding him of the reality he was forced to hide. Everything is then a metaphor for his own demons the famous pyramid head, representation of his guilt.
