Your childhood was destroyed by a new project?

Childhood, destroyed, project

Heading for a remake, reboot, or fourth Back to the Future movie? Legends Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly) and Christopher Lloyd (Emmett “Doc” Brown) provide their answer.

Since Hollywood doesn’t have ideas, nor does it support the young talent that they have, it recycles everything. Between remakes or reboots, the movie industry—and increasingly the video game industry—likes to revisit great classics. Even if it means failing with shaky or even bad projects. For years there has been a cult franchise, a pop culture juggernaut that is fighting back: Back to the Future.

Will the legendary Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale trilogy be massacred by the current Hollywood machine? With or without the original actors who were instrumental in creating the franchise’s magic?

A reboot or remake of “Back to the Future” or even a new film?

In an age of Hollywood remakes, reboots, and sequels, the Back to the Future case keeps coming back. We had new Star Wars, Rocky, Terminator and other 80’s gems, but Back to the Future, no. And there’s a well-known reason for that: Director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Bob Gale are more protective of their trademark licenses than ever. It would be impossible to achieve without them, and they’re both totally against a repeat or Back to the Future 4.

On the other hand, Michael J. Fox, the legendary Marty McFly, was in mourning and didn’t want to intervene to prevent a reboot of the series. This does not prevent the actor from considering it completely dispensable. “I’m not a fanatic. Do what you want. It’s your movie and I’ve already been paid! I don’t think that’s useful. I think Robert and Bob were very smart. And I don’t think we need a reboot of Back to the Future. Does something need to be clarified? Can you think of a better way to tell the story? I doubt » (above diversity).

As for Back to the Future 4, it couldn’t have been more exciting. In addition, Parkinson’s disease was beginning to appear at this point and he might have refused outright. “I’m sure someone thought of (note: producing Back to the Future Part IV). But at that point I was already in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. So I don’t know if I could have accepted such a project. Immediately after the success of Back to the Future 3, there may have been talks about it. But I was never involved” he added.

“Nothing can happen until Bob and I are dead”

On the other hand for Christopher Lyod, the brilliant Emmett ” doc Brown is different. He would see himself doing it again, but of course not without a “brilliant idea”. Well, so much to say it’s dead. “I’d love to do a sequel, but I think Bob Zemeckis and producer Steven Spielberg felt they had already told the full story in all three films. But if someone has a great idea that would justify a fourth episode, it could be implemented..

One of two actors, but it’s a resounding no on the part of the director and screenwriter. Robert Zemeckis has repeatedly ruled out a return to the cinema. There will be nothing in his lifetime and that of his associate.

I’ll tell you why. Firstly, three films is already good. That’s a good number three. Then It would be quite difficult to find the magic and energy that we had when we were making these movies in the 80’s. In addition, the whole team has changed a lot. We’ve all gotten older since then. And the actors would no longer look like the characters in the film. I think we have to stick with the trilogy and keep it as it is, even though there’s always an audience that sometimes asks us for a fourth. But if we did that, I don’t think we would be happy with the result.

No, it’s done! The actors are too old! And do a remake or a reboot, no I don’t believe in it, what’s the point? I like the idea that a film is also a testament to its time. From an artistic point of view it has no interest for me to redo something that already exists, it would be like reproducing a painting…. Nothing can happen until Bob and I are dead. Then I’m sure they’ll jump at it.

Over movie update.

However, as he so aptly puts it, when Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gales die, Hollywood certainly won’t hesitate to jump into Back to the Future. We have to keep our fingers crossed that intellectual property is protected by the creators’ children (if any) or a trusted third party…
