Rainbow Six: Siege is the first game to confirm the forward compatibility of the discs of PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Rainbow Six: Siege It is one of the earliest live service games promised to support PS5 and Xbox Series X.
After previously confirming that players will be able to join each other across generations of consoles, Ubisoft has now clarified that even CD-ROM versions are available. Siege Creative Director Leroy Athanassoff confirms that your existing PS4 and Xbox One Siege discs can be used on PS5 and Xbox Series X. After doing this, you can download and play the game on your new console.
"The only fact we are communicating now is that we are supporting cross-generation matchmaking," Athanassoff said.
"For example, a PS5 player can play with a PS4 player, and an Xbox Series X player can play with an Xbox One player. The game will be backwards compatible, which means you can put a Rainbow 6 Siege disc on PS4 , Put in PS5, or put Xbox One disc in Xbox SeriesX.
The creative director didn't say if the Siege version on the new console would be enhanced in some way, or simply to enhance the current version of the game through backward compatibility. It sounds like these decisions have not been made.
He added: "We can be sure that we don't want to destroy our community, don't split our community, and we don't want you to buy another Rainbow Six: Siege Operation at full price.
This is great news for players investing in Siege, as it means that their purchase will evolve as they decide to jump into the next generation of consoles as long as it belongs to the same console series. Considering that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X were launched during the game's 5th year of content release, and after another year of confirmation, this is not surprising.
