It’s been a rough old launch week for Overwatch 2. In addition to the tedious and unrewarding Battle Pass, players were plagued by connectivity issues and couldn’t even log into the game. This is the most Blizzard launch we’ve seen in a while.
If you do manage to get into the title, you’ll notice that gameplay changes (or lack thereof) are still a frequent topic of conversation among Overwatch hardcore. Some complained that things felt too similar, while others were annoyed that the likes of Torbjörn and Bastion were temporarily dropped from the game for unfair mistakes.
However, now that we’ve seen these initial bugs fixed, we don’t expect any bigger changes anytime soon. Blizzard, the developer behind the title, notes that it doesn’t plan to make “any immediate balance changes” to any of its heroes, other than – perhaps – minor changes to Zarya in one mode.
“While some heroes outperformed others and there were differences in player skill levels, we were pleased to see that no hero had an overall strength level that fell far short of our goals. Every hero on the roster had a winrate of Between 45% and 55%,” the studio noted in a blog post.
If you’re waiting for major changes, you’re going to have to hit the ground running in Season 2 — when Blizz points out that it’ll be rolling out more essential updates. With that in mind, the developers did notice that one of its eyes trained tank heroes. Now that they only have one position, they are more important than ever. In Season 2, we might see some top-level changes to Zarya, Queen Junker, and Doomfist (Genji, Sombra, Symmetra, and Torbjörn are also under the microscope, thanks to their higher win rate).
Blizzard also outlined the map rotation pool for each season. Here’s the first season rotation of Quick Match and Competitive in Overwatch 2:
