Your Xiaomi phone may be affected: These models will not receive a new update

• Xiaomi will release a major update for its phones later this year.
• The new operating system HyperOS 2.0 promises some improvements compared to its predecessor HyperOS.
• However, a total of 16 cell phones and tablets will not receive the update.

With the new operating system HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi aims to equip its smartphones with groundbreaking features. Details on the expansion of the virtual RAM were recently announced. Overall, the new system is expected to offer significant improvements over the previous version of HyperOS and will be released later this year – but not for everyone.

The fan blog XiaomiTime has now published a list of devices that will probably not get the update. All of them run on Android 13 (currently still supports HyperOS) or Android 12 (MIUI 13). However, HyperOS 2.0 is designed for devices that can receive the latest Android version, Android 15. Accordingly, XiaomiTime also only in October mit HyperOS 2.0.

It is striking that the youngest of the devices mentioned, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G, only came to Germany last year and is not supposed to receive a software update. This is reminiscent of a fairly recent smartwatch from the manufacturer, which also does not receive a HyperOS update.

To put it in context: These are exceptions, most of the devices mentioned above are older, the Xiaomi 10, for example, came to Germany in 2020. But even software support of just under four years is considered short these days. Samsung, for example, recently extended its update period for some models from five to seven years.
