We show you the best music streaming program for listening to your favorite songs.

You want to play a YouTube video in the background, but playback always stops? YouTube does not allow the free version to play background music on iOS or Android. We will show you how it works.

YouTube currently cannot play third-party applications in the background on Android smartphones, iPhones or Pads. The only exception: Paid subscription services include YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. Below, we will show you the options for background playback on Android and iOS.

Background playback through third-party applications [Android only]

You can use the "OGYouTube" app to play YouTube clips in background mode on your Android smartphone. Unfortunately, this application is not available in the Google Play Store, you must download and install it manually as an APK file. For example, you can download it from the APK-Mirror website, but please perform a short virus check before installation to ensure security.

So you use the app's background mode

  1. YouTube3 YouTube3

    the first

Open OGYouTube. You can see the "Background" button below the video. If you click on it, the video will continue to play in the background without stopping.

Play videos about Safari in the background

There are no third-party apps for iPhone, and you can use them to play YouTube videos in the background. Until recently, this was entirely possible through the Control Center under iOS-but this is no longer possible. But there is a way: through the browser, a single YouTube video can be played in the background. Unfortunately, this is not as convenient as using the application. Nor can playlists be played in this way.

Play video in background with Firefox on Android

This method can also be used on Android [such as Firefox browser]. Similarly, you must activate the desktop view for playback to take place in the background. To do this, follow these steps:

This is

  1. YouTube1 YouTube1

    the first

Open Firefox on your Android device and enter the URL "youtube.com". Click the three vertical dots to the right of the address line.

  2. YouTube2 YouTube2

    Second place

Now you make your selection in the menu "Desktop Page". After closing the browser, playback will continue in the background.

In another article about netzwelt, we will explain how to download and convert YouTube clips.
