Zack Snyder loves his director’s cut so much that he has prepared one for every Rebel Moon movie he releases with Netflix.
Directors’ cuts aren’t common these days. Part of that may be because Hollywood executives are hesitant to give filmmakers more money to make movies they’ve already paid for and completed, but also because they don’t want to relinquish control of their intellectual property — after all, it’s king right now. But Snyder at least got that chance with Justice League, thanks to a fan campaign inflated by robots, and he’s trying to do it again with his two Rebel Moon movies. The director has been hyping up the first standard cuts before they even came out (which makes one wonder if he really wants you to see that movie).

Earlier today, Snyder took to his Twitter account to share that the director’s cut of both parts of Rebel Moon will be released on Netflix on August 2. Both films even have new names now – the first chapter will be called Blood on the Chalice, and the second chapter will be called The Curse of the Forgiven. Both movies sound a bit too edgy for my taste, but I’m a fan of Shadow the Hedgehog, so what do I know about taste?

Hopefully, Snyder’s ego will be better received than the current releases, as both films were met with mostly negative reviews from critics. But who cares what anyone thinks when Netflix is playing the numbers game? The first film became the most-watched movie on Netflix when it was released before Christmas. The second film also had strong ratings, so I can only imagine the director’s cut will put some people on the couch again.
