The first age rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been revealed, and yes, it looks like we’ll be playing as Link?
Back in June, at Nintendo’s annual summer Direct, the developer announced something we’ve been waiting for years: a Zelda game where players can play as the princess herself. Echoes of Wisdom is obviously a bit different in formula, as instead of a sword, Zelda picks up a special wand that can copy just about anything, so it’s obviously going to be a more puzzle-based game, but it’s exciting that she’s getting a series staple all her own. Well, it won’t be all her own, though, as Gematsu spotted that the game’s ESRB age rating has been bumped up, with the rating summary revealing that, yes, series protagonist Link is playable.

“This is an adventure game in which the player assumes the role of Zelda as she attempts to heal the rift in the continent of Hyrule and rescue Link,” the summary begins, which seems to be consistent with what we know so far. “From a ¾ top-down perspective, the player explores various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, the player uses swords and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., clockwork knights, pig soldiers, slimes) to fight.”

The second-to-last line confirms that Link is playable, but honestly, I thought there would be a simple explanation. In the trailer for the game, things start out with Link doing his usual sword-fighting shenanigans, confronting Ganon and so on, and I guess that part is playable. It’s possible that he’s playable in other parts, but considering the whole purpose is to save him, I guess it’s just a set-up for the first part.
In any case, we won’t have to wait too long to find out, as the game is set to release on September 26, which is just a few months away – and yes, it will be released on Nintendo Switch as usual.
