The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out in just over three months, and we have to admit that information about Nintendo’s biggest title of 2023 is scarce. However, with a potential dedicated Nintendo Direct approaching, previously unknown information may have leaked…
To say that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom cultivates the art of mystery is an understatement. By far the most anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive of 2023 is set to release on May 12, but we still know very little about it. Aside from three trailers (at E3 2019 and 2021, then during the September 2022 Nintendo Direct), we don’t really have anything to chew on Nintendo, That’s more than spare of details about the gameplay and scenario of this direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As legitimate Nintendo Direct predictions (they’re more than just rumours!) multiply in early February, a famous retail site could be leaking new information…

Tears of the Kingdom, ou l’art du mystère
Revealed in teaser form at E3 2019 at the end of the Nintendo Direct broadcast, which airs each year during the California Show, The Breath of the Wild sequel had been missing for two years until E3 2021 was back and for a fuller trailer that will wreak havoc on fans who have had countless theories and even assume that Zelda is playable… until the new trailer somehow puts an end to any form of suspense (if it really existed). It will then take a little over a year to hear from this untitled game again,
After announcing that the title will be released in spring 2023 and thus not being able to meet the deadlines originally hoped for (the publisher announced 2022 as the release window at the end of the E3 2021 trailer without officially committing to it, The September 2022 Nintendo Direct finally unveiled the game’s most anticipated trailer, the one that finally revealed the title: “Tears of the Kingdom” – a title which, due to an unfortunate coincidence with the death of Queen Elizabeth II, also led to the postponement of said Direct in the UK. Not enough to reveal that much about the game’s scenario or even its mechanics, which always ends up being so abstruse, despite three trailers and just as many years to speculate about the actual gameplay of the title or its synopsis…
Communication that leaves a lot to be desired at Nintendo
Last week the Nintendo France Twitter account rightly recalled we were easy now 100 days after the release of Tears of the Kingdomperhaps anxious to quash the rumors of a new postponement, largely based on the famous Japanese manufacturer’s lack of real communication surrounding its flagship game. That a Nintendo Direct will air in February seems more than likely, however (prognosis is good, with lowest odds pointing to a Wednesday at 11pm, either 8th February or 15th February). and that a directive dedicated to the new Zelda (for example in March) would be more than coherent and relevant, if you just take the model of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 or Splatoon 3, other very large cartridges from the publisher.
Important information revealed by a French website?
In the meantime, we still don’t know much about Tears of the Kingdom, and it really doesn’t help to settle for the elements officially communicated by the manufacturer. There official game site on the Nintendo website is stingy in the description and is content with a summary description, which all dealer sites use identically, for lack of anything better, on their own pages dedicated to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for many months:
In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link’s adventure will reach into the skies above the vast lands of Hyrule.

So what are the “tears of the kingdom”?
Clearly, Much of this text is extremely general, and generally fits the description one might make of Breath of the Wild or any modern-day action RPG (to the point where you wonder if it wasn’t generated by some type of artificial intelligence ChatGPT!), but some elements are intriguing. The recurring insistence on puzzles, the mention of “huge and detailed worlds” and most importantly the second paragraph conjuring up the scenario is odd at least, so much so are they coherent and yet they come out of nowhere. In fact, since the game’s official title was announced, we’ve never really known what those famous “Tears of the Kingdom” meant, even though many had allowed themselves to theorize about a possible mourning within Hyrule after the death of Zelda.
However, in the various trailers, many assumed (probably correctly) that said tears were stored in the mysterious orbs that Link wore at the level of his belt. After this surprising description that came out of nowhere, it would be nothing more and nothing less than valuable artifacts that can be collected during Link’s adventures in Hyrule to bring peace to the kingdom, like the Triforce Fragments from the very first The Legend of Zelda or even the Eight Instruments of the Sirens from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. It is therefore a safe bet that they are in fact the main quest element of this new adventure, both in terms of gameplay and scenario. although we still have no idea how to collect them and what their strange powers hold. It’s a safe bet that we’ll know more very soon, the game’s release date is approaching… and most likely Nintendo Direct too!
