Sorry to tell those who haven’t tried it yet, but no, you can’t pet the dog in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Just look at Nintendo. I have something to tell you, and yes, the pun was intended. I don’t think every dog that appears in every game needs to have the option for me to pet it. But there are some really good boys and girls in Breath of the Wild, and you didn’t give me the option to pet them. Now, what did I discover when I first encountered the best dog in Zelda Hyrule’s many stables: Tears of the Kingdom? I still can’t pet it! What’s up with that Nintendo? Don’t these dogs deserve a pat on the head, or even a little scratch?
Petting dogs in games has become a trend in recent years, thanks in no small part to the Twitter account Can You Pet the Dog? Yes – which does share the scary fact that you can’t play in Kingdom Tears stroking the dog. Scrolling through Can You Pet the Dog’s tweets will show you v arious games that let you pet, cuddle, or otherwise interact with various types of creatures, dogs or not. The account is mostly for a little fun, but has also become a great way to learn about many games you may not have heard of.
But most importantly, the account’s popularity (it has over 500,000 followers at the time of writing) speaks to the fact that many players want to interact in the game, not just swing a sword or shoot a gun. Of course, wielding a sword in Tears of the Kingdom is more fun than ever, thanks to Fuse’s wacky ability (which we can show you how to use here). However, I still want to pet the Nintendo dog.
