Hoyoverse, the Chinese developer who helped popularize the so-called gacha games in the Western market with Genshin Impact, is working on two new titles, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. One sends you into the endless expanses of space in a sci-fi setting, the other into the post-apocalypse.
The Chinese developer Mihoyo, who became internationally known through the free action role-playing game Genshin Impact, presented two upcoming games at the Summer Games Fest that seem to be of one piece with the debut title. It all started with Honkai Star Rail, with which the developer tried for the first time to transfer his gameplay to the genre of turn-based role-playing games. So instead of just going with one main character, Honkai Star Rail gives you the opportunity to recruit a whole party of fighters and put together a party of your liking.
Provided, of course, that you have the right characters. Because the new title also offers the well-known gacha system, with which the developer finances his free-to-play model. Character packs can be purchased for in- game currency, but mainly for real money, which may or may not contain the coveted character that is needed to perfect the team.
In addition to Honkai Star Rail, Mihoyo, which now appears internationally as Hoyoverse, also presented a brand new trailer for Zenless Zone Zero. The game is also set in the future, but in a post-apocalyptic scenario. A mysterious cataclysm is creating caves and dimensional rifts all over the world. Monsters pour out of these and terrify mankind. In contrast to Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero is more based on Genshin Impact. Again, an action-based combat system is used here.
Players take on the role of a so-called proxy, accompanying adventurers on their journey into the aforementioned caves to find out more about the mysterious rifts and dangerous monsters there. Of course you should also invest money in the gacha system to unlock new characters.
