Oddly enough, more than 30 years have passed since Super Mario Bros 3 will land in the NES of all the world. It’s not crazy to say that from the very beginning it became one of the fan favorites: its improved graphics, the new and interesting power-ups, the first appearance of the Koopalines… This game had it all! That is why today we are going to see 15 facts and curiosities of Super Mario Bros 3.
Development, launch and reception
1.- This third installment was released in Japan in 1988, 3 years after the Super Mario Bros original of NES It will revolutionize the whole world.
2.- It would not reach the United States until 1990, two years after its launch on Japanese soil. Finally, the European version would have to wait until August 1991.
3.- The development team had 30 people, a big difference if we compare it with the 5 people who participated in the original Super Mario Bros. These were Shigeru Miyamoto (character creator, producer and director), Takashi Tezuka (game designer), the programmers Toshihiko Nakago
4.- Talking about Koji Kondo, this was in charge of creating all the music and sounds we heard. As you probably already know, he is also the creator of most of the soundtracks for the plumber franchise and The Legend of Zelda saga.
5.- This installment was thought to be completed in two years, but it finally lasted 2 and a half years. It may seem like a short time today, especially when it comes to a release as important as this, but in the 80’s it was a huge time frame!
6.- If we talk about the best-selling Mario video games in history, Super Mario Bros 3 is positioned in 7th place with 17.2 million of copies sold. Just ahead of New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS and behind Super Mario Land on the original GameBoy.
7.- Nintendo received some criticism for the Super Mario Bros 2 original, which in the West was known years later as The Lost Levels, due to its little innovation with respect to the first installment. That is why, at first, they thought of changing the point of view, leaving behind the traditional side scroll and replacing it with an aerial view. However, due to the limitations of the NES, this was not possible. Goodness!
8.- The version that came to the West is a tad easier than the Japanese one. While in the original Mario returns to his small form after receiving a hit, regardless of the buff he has, in the western one he will only lose the active ability, that is, he will only regress one transformation instead of two.
About the Koopalines and the origin of their names

The origin of some enemies
11.- The origin of the famous Chomp Cadenas is related to childhood Miyamoto. And it is that, when he was little, he got a tremendous scare when a dog began to bark and go after him. Luckily, the dog was on a leash, which served as the inspiration for the creation of this classic enemy.
12.- When you look straight at a Boo, it will cover its face and will not chase you. Now, don’t try to turn your back on him! This behavior is inspired by the wife of Takashi Tezuka, co-director of the game; and it is that this woman was not amused that her husband arrived so late from work, and she had to make a fuss at home every time she appeared. If we add to this the characteristic reserved behavior of the Japanese… voilà! We have Boo.
discarded content
