3DS eShop spotlight – Nano Assault EX

3DS, 3DS eShop, Assault, Countdown, eShop, features, Nano, Nintendo, Spotlight

Who made it?

Shin’en Multimedia. This developer has been around since the Game Boy Color days, but really started making waves with Nanostray on the Nintendo DS, followed by Nano Assault on the 3DS. Its performance on Switch has been impressive so far, releasing the exceptional launch title Fast RMX, the excellent physics puzzler Art Of Balance (also on 3DS and Wii U) and the aforementioned gorgeous action-adventure puzzle game The Touryst in 2019.

What is the premise?

Nano Assault EX is bullshit, through and through. You’ll zip around the various planets in your trusty ship, blasting enemies left, right and center using the face buttons or the Circle Pad Pro.

There are multiple ways to get stuck in, including Story Mode, Boss Rush Mode, Survivor Mode, and Arcade Mode. In particular, Survivor Mode is a completely new addition to the EX version of the game, with an additional control scheme.

Why should I play it?

Nano Assault was already a fantastic experience, but the Nano Assault EX edition brought with it tons of new content and improvements that fans should definitely check out.

First off, we mentioned the addition of Survivor Mode to the list of downloadable mods, along with added Circle Pad Pro support and improved responsiveness that made smooth gameplay even more satisfying. It also looks gorgeous, provides the right level of challenge and remains extremely affordable.

If you’re a fan of Shin’en’s later Switch games, you owe it to yourself to try out one of his best creations to date. Go for it.

How much is that?

£8.49 / $9.99 / $9.99. It’s been a few months since this one was on sale, but keep an eye on it because it can go down to £1.69 / $1.99. That’s an insane deal!

We’ll be back soon with another 3DS or Wii U eShop recommendation as part this series ‘Countdown’. Let us know below if you already have this in your collection and share your thoughts. Also, feel free to nominate other games — we may feature them in the coming days.
