It’s been 7 years since Nintendo launched its hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch. Later, they released a revision of the console with an improved battery along with the Lite model, which stopped being a hybrid and became a simple portable console. In 2021, they launched the Switch OLED, increasing the storage from 32 to 64 GB and offering a larger and higher quality screen.
In May 2024, Nintendo published a tweet confirming that, before the end of this fiscal year, it would officially announce the long-rumored Nintendo Switch 2. With recent rumors indicating the console’s announcement this September, we’re going to make a list of 5 things that the Switch 2 should improve or maintain with respect to its predecessor.
Best Joy-Con with magnetic attachment
One of the aspects in which the Switch 2 has to improve is without a doubt the controls. The Joy-Con, the controllers that come with the Switch, have had a major drift problem since their launch. Although it improved in the Nintendo Switch OLED model, this problem still persists and they should solve it with the new controllers.
Another improvement in relation to the controllers is their connection to the console. The way the Joy-Con is attached is through a rail that ends up wearing out and causing the controllers to detach themselves, preventing the game from being played in portable mode. This would be solved by using a magnetic coupling system so that it does not wear out due to friction when inserting and removing them.
Backwards compatibility with Switch
The Nintendo Switch It has a large library of games and every user of the system has titles in both physical and digital format, if Nintendo adds backward compatibility with Switch games it is a great incentive for users to decide to upgrade to Switch 2.
More power
The Nintendo Switch has been pushed to the limit with titles like Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Pokémon Scarlet and Purple or Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Switch 2 should bring more graphical power to be able to play the incredible titles already mentioned with higher frame rates y higher resolutionsthus allowing companies to develop more ambitious games for the console.
Preserve the OLED screen
If we talk about screens, Switch 2 It is forced to keep the excellent OLED screen of the previous model, as it offers more vivid colors, deeper blacks and better contrast, unlike the screen LCD
More storage space
Currently, the Switch has 32 GB of storage in its standard version and its Lite version and in the case of Switch OLED 64 GB, which makes it almost mandatory to insert a microSD card to be able to continue installing or updating our titles. An increase in capacity up to 256 GB or even more it would be great to not be forced to use a microSD to expand the console’s memory.
Although it is always advisable to have a microSD card so that you never run out of storage on your Nintendo Switch.
