Pentiment is a fantastic adventure RPG that enjoys a studious approach to history and flawless recreations of the styles and traditions of 16th century Bavaria. There’s a super-smart, funny, and interesting murder mystery here to explore, but what really elevates this experience is how that mystery is so completely rooted in the world that’s been lovingly crafted around it. It’s one of the best games of the last decade, without a doubt, and to have that experience working and performing flawlessly on the Switch is a joy — it feels like it was made for Nintendo’s console. This is as important as the games.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a deft return to the franchise’s roots, offering clever 2.5D action wrapped in a delightful art style and satisfying story. There’s a smart balance here between classic action and challenge levels, more combat and neat puzzles, all mixed with accessibility options and fine-tuning that open things up for newcomers and casual players alike. We knew Ubisoft Montpellier was a pair of safe hands and the team didn’t let us down, serving up the first must-have game of 2024 in a Switch port that absolutely does the job.

Disco Elysium’s story and dialogue, which were already incredibly compelling in the base game, got a big boost thanks to the excellent voice acting introduced for the Final Cut. The game has plenty of branching paths to explore, and while the slow, methodical approach may turn some people off, this is still one of the best-told stories in the game. any medium from the last few years. Performance issues at the time of our review took a bit of the shine off of things, but even with them, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut was and is a triumph and stands as one of the best RPGs available on Switch.

Cocoon is a fun and addictive puzzle game. Its unique mechanics and gameplay have us glued to our screens, and it’s gorgeous to boot. Its lack of an explicit story might be a minor letdown, and it’s a consistently sub-30fps experience on the Switch, but its performance never negatively affects gameplay and if you like puzzles, this game will be an easy favorite — even if everything goes by way too fast .

qomp 2 is excellent and worth reimaging tennis which pays homage to the legacy of the classic arcade game while providing a unique experience for people who have no nostalgia for Atari’s seminal masterpiece. It offers a consistently interesting and engaging way of traversing with a large variety of obstacles and puzzles to overcome across 30 stages. We would have liked a few more levels at the end, but this is really just an indication of the quality on display here. If you like quirky action-oriented puzzles with a unique hook, then qomp 2 is definitely worth your attention.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains a masterpiece, and being able to embark on such a grand and captivating adventure on the go is something worth celebrating. The Switch’s Complete Edition is truly an impressive achievement, and while the execution isn’t perfect, it’s still an incredible and immersive role-playing experience. The Witcher 3 set the bar for modern RPGs back in 2015, and this port is a stunning reminder that it still has room for improvement.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rome is a wonderful achievement for dynamic storytelling, as it offers a compelling and multi-layered narrative that will keep you guessing until the very end. This excellent story, combined with enjoyable combat sequences, striking art style and superb voice acting make for an experience you don’t want to miss. It’s the kind of game that will make you wish you could play it again for the first time, just so all of its best elements are new again.

Florence is an evocation of the beauty, sadness, and hope that comes from every human connection we make in our lives, whether with art, nature, or another person. It’s a succinct and incredibly successful exploration of moments you’ll recognize from your own life, and the way it reflects thoughts and feelings through small gameplay mechanics makes it one of the most memorable experiences we’ve enjoyed on Switch or any other platform.

Mark of the Ninja: Remastered is an absolutely stellar stealth game and has lost none of the magic that made the original so beloved by critics. Strong art direction, an interesting story, an open, well-paced gameplay, and tons of extra content combine to make for an almost seamless experience that you definitely won’t want to miss. We would highly recommend this game to all Switch owners; it’s the best stealth game money can buy in the Switch library, and one of the best at it any console library.

If you can overlook the technical challenges – and we could – Outer Wilds remains a wondrous experience on Switch. With almost no passages and hands free to explore a rich corner of the universe, it captures the quest for learning in the most direct way possible: the only reward for progress is knowledge. Starting with no information at all, you’ll understand the intricacies of this tiny solar system better than its inhabitants. Soaring through such an epic, introspective and existentially curious adventure, we probably understood ourselves a little better.

Super Mario Odyssey was a return to the ‘sandbox’ style that gamers had been yearning for since 1996, and it delivered everything you could want and more. Cappy’s grappling abilities keep things fresh in a game that blends all sorts of ideas and art styles into an incredibly coherent, believable whole. It really shouldn’t work, but the human inhabitants of the city of New Donk can co-exist with the anthropomorphic cutlery from the Lunch Kingdom and the cute big-eyed clan characters from the Mushroom Kingdom thanks to the only one to the flawless performance of the developers. The mechanical mastery on display here is breathtaking, with so many things to distract you, and there’s a joyous abandon that runs through every kingdom you visit. We don’t envy the designers who have to come up with Mario’s next game, but if Mario Odyssey is anything to go by, absolutely anything is possible.
An utterly outstanding entry into this most celebrated series, then, and an essential purchase whether you like Mario or not.
