In 1980, Italian director Raggero Deodato made cinema history with the release of The Cannibal Holocaust, a film in which the group is revealed while investigating tribal populations in the Amazon rain forest.
The movie – which laid the foundations of the & # 39; stage show & # 39; The Blair Witch project and Cloverfield – there has been controversy since the release; Following the Italian Prime Minister, he was ordered to be arrested by a local magistrate. Deodato was arrested on felony charges, after which he ended up facing a murder charge as it was believed that the obvious death penalty was real (Deodato had made major stars sign contracts that prevented him from appearing on the screen to highlight the idea that, in fact, they were lost on Amazon).
Though the murder charges are ineffective, the film remained banned in a number of countries for its graphic violence, graphic depictions of sexual assault and actual violence against animals. This movie was added to the British Board of Film Classization's inappropriate & # 39; s video list and was not released in the UK in 2001.
Why do we tell you all this? Well, with the 40th anniversary of the release of the original film it has been announced that Deodato has partnered with Fantastico Studio to produce the fourth chapter in the cannibals saga, and it will be a video game.
Described as an "interactive horical graphic adventure" directed and written by Deodato himself, You can't it will allow the player to take control of a variety of different protagonists as they uncover the terrifying mystery found in the jungles of Borneo.
Deodato said the following in a new way:
Exercise is one of the things I think is most important in this field. What I enjoy most is exploring myself, trying something new. Maybe that's also why I waited so long to return to the forest world with cannibals. By the time we went into the forest, we were living with the natives, showing the public a reality they could not even see and understand. Today, instead there are dozens of documentaries and films showing the life and nature of those places, and for me the theme was lost.
Meeting with Fantastico Studio co-creators has given me the opportunity to return to that heaven, in those contexts, but trying something new: polluting my world with videogame is a new challenge, making this story interactive opens up many new possibilities and I hope it will also help bring new people into my narrative.
No gameplay base has been released yet, but the game – built using Unity engine – is expected to launch with Nintendo switchch, PS4, Xbox One, PC and mobile this November.
