[Análisis] Sports Party for Nintendo Switch – iGamesNews

Ubisoft wanted to bring up Nintendo Switch one of those sports party titles like I did on Wii years ago. We talk about Sports party, a completely new game (not a port of the Wii version) that can be a great alternative for those looking for fun with friends. And now that we are in a situation like the current one, what better than to enjoy a title of this type at home. But … will it be worth it? Let's check it out.

Quick, easy and for the whole family

Sports Party is not very thoughtful. For those who do not know it, it is a game that features several not-so-popular sports, mainly focused on the summer climate.

Thus, we find the following sports:

  • Golf: with the only variant that in each test you can change the hole to complete.
  • Beach tennis: the typical set of blades, with the variant of single or double match.
  • Basketball: where we can play a triple contest or a two against two.
  • Skateboarding: We can play a race or a checkpoint test.
  • Frisbee: We have the objective mode, to approach the frisbee to the indicated point or frisbee-mania, where we must compete at the same time with the other three players to make the maximum points.
  • Jet Ski: here we can carry out a race to use or a circuit of tricks to get more points than the rest.

All sports and tests can be played between four players, where we can participate four friends or against characters controlled by the AI.

In all of them we can use the Joy-Con's motion control or buttons, depending on what best suits our tastes.

These sports can be played quickly, in the Play Now mode, or in Championships, where we can establish tournaments of three, six or nine rounds. For these tournaments, we have the option to choose the difficulty between Easy, Medium or Hard.

It is curious that when we play against three AI characters, we always choose to test ourselves, regardless of whether we are in the lead or not.

Not so precise sports

The playable approach of Sports Party is, a priori, simple. However, control seems to want to go against it sometimes, with inexplicable errors and inaccuracies, both in the use of movement control and buttons.

For example, in the case of Basketball, during games 2 vs 2, the control is very rough and imprecise, greatly clouding the experience. In the case of Skateboarding something similar happens but with the control by movements.

Thus, despite being a game that has no control complications (just with two buttons or a couple of movements we have everything), it becomes cumbersome to enjoy some moments.

A “vintage” vacation

If you look at the graphic section of Sports PartyIt does look like a title that could have come out 10 years ago without surprising us. Robotic animations, shaky framerate, overly simple scenarios, nonexistent effects… Both in portable mode and in desktop mode, we found no incentives beyond being a picturesque game with a summer aesthetic, but quite a few flaws.

The sound section is not much better. Few unremarkable melodies, simple effects and the voice of a narrator who intervenes in a few moments. Yes, the game is coming entirely in Spanish, both texts and voices.

A sports afternoon

Sports Party does not last long. Really, its duration does not extend much beyond the bites that we want to throw with friends at home, which is how it is most enjoyed. There are not too many alternatives for the venue and there is no trace of online options (neither scores nor competitions).

Championships are won quite simply, even at the Hard level, making it a bit challenging title.

As the only incentive, we have the collecting stars that will give us clothing items and accessories, with which you can customize the available characters (a total of eight).

It would have been nice to have one more sport or include variants that will encourage repeating the tests in a different way.

conclusion

Sports party is one of those sports titles designed for the local multiplayer, whose life does not extend beyond a few afternoons. Have quite a few technical flaws and doesn't offer too much content as if to stick to it for a long time. To spend a good afternoon of laughter with friends, it may be an option. But If you are looking for a sports title with more options for a single player, you have other better alternatives. Sports Party is available at Nintendo Switch both in physical and digital format at the price of € 39.99, and in digital it occupies a total of 3.2 GB.
