Arcade Shoot 'Em Up 'Under Defeat' Coming to Switch in Early 2025

Update []: Oops! It seems we (and many others) missed this one, but Clear River Games announced last week that Under Defeat will “arrive later than expected” in the West, and has been pushed back to early 2025.

The game launched on the Switch yesterday, December 5th, in Japan, and we were wondering “where on earth is the game on the eShop?” Well… right at the start of the extended Thanksgiving weekend, the publisher shared an update.

Don't worry, the physical release is still coming!

Publisher Clear River Games and developer City Connection announced today that the arcade shoot 'em up game Under Defeat will fly to the Switch on December 5.

Originally released in arcades in 2005 by G.rev, this shmup will see you take to the skies to defend the world in an all-out war. You'll take command of a heavily armored helicopter and take down any enemies unlucky enough to cross your path with Under Defeat's unique tilt shot mechanic — a way to engage enemies from all angles.

This Switch edition features both the original Arcade Mode for that vertical scrolling feel and New Order Mode for those who like things a little more modern. There is also 'New Order Mode+', an enhanced soundtrack from Ridge Racer and Tekken composer Shinji Hosoe, a new two-player option, and all of the game's DLC content that was previously locked to Japan.

If the trailer above whetted your appetite, here are some screenshots to give you a closer look at the action:

And yes, this one will also get a physical Switch edition. Recent Clear River Games twitter he claimed that “more information will follow” on the physical front, so stay tuned over the coming weeks if you've opted for the boxed edition.
