Atari has announced that it is reviving the dormant Infogrames publishing house, once known for publishing games such as Pigs of war, Heart of darkness, Alone in the dark 2and more.
Although once one of the most recognizable publishers in Europe, the Infogrames name was dropped in favor of the Atari brand in 2009 following the merger of Infogrames and Atari Inc. a year before. In that time, Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari Inc He said “We got rid of the duality of Infogrames and Atari, the confusion about it. We are one simplified company, under one management team, under one brand.”
Now under the leadership of CEO Wade Rosen, the Infogrames markup and accompanying armadillo logo are making a comeback:
At this point, it is unknown what games Infogrames will focus on in the future, given that Atari itself is largely concerned with its own brand and portfolio of games. However, we do know that it recently acquired Totally Reliable Delivery Service, which is available on Switch, and will “build its portfolio primarily through acquisition,” according to the official Atari Web page. This may also include legacy Infogrames games in the future.
Recently, Atari released games like qomp2 and Haunted House on the Switch, and Lunar Lander Beyond launched today. He also recently announced Yars Rising, a Metroidvania developed by none other than WayForward Technologies in collaboration with Atari. Launching later this year, it’s a revival of a classic Jars of the franchise that started back in 1982 with Yars’ Revenge for 2600.
