The second half of Nintendo’s 2022 featured a lot of game updates. Most of them were for their new game releases, but Nintendo even updated some video games that hadn’t received any updates in years.

Well, 2023 seems to be starting in a similar fashion. Nintendo and PlatinumGames have released an update for Bayonetta 3. After you update, Bayonetta 3 should be at version 1.2.0. It’s a big update, but its main purpose is customization and bug fixes. You can see the full patch notes below.

  • Adjusted Viola’s activation window for “Block” and activation conditions for Witch Time.
    • Block activation window added after block release (during release animation).
    • Added an extra animation when Witch Time takes effect, making it easier to activate.
    • Witch Time’s allotted duration and its activation window have been extended.
    • Now, when the block activates when the player is attacked, the player will take the damage effect, but the block will succeed and activate the Witching Time.
    • Now the combo can continue (with Dodge Offset) when the player uses Block to activate Witch Time.
    • If the Block entry is used repeatedly, the granted duration of Witch Time will decrease.
  • Tweaks made to prevent Viola’s Evade and Cheshire’s Summons from activating Assault Slave while maintaining invincibility if used in quick succession.
  • Weapons “Simoon”, “Tartarus”, and Viola’s Charge Attacks can now continue to hold a charge, even if dodged or blocked.
  • Wink Slave can now be activated from “PKP*” and “PKK*” combinations for “G-Pillar”, “Dead End Express” and “Cassiopeia” weapons. *P is kick and K is punch
  • When equipping the Infernal Communicator and Pulley’s Butterfly accessories to summon devils and butterflies, it is now possible to cancel the summoning move by dodging or blocking.

The following Niflheim stage conditions have been changed to reduce difficulty:

Chapter 12 Verse 5 (Occasionally for the Expert) One life increased to two lives
  • The conditions for obtaining the “Tricolor Keys” needed to unseal the “Old Picture Book” have been eased.
    • The “Tricolor Keys” will automatically be available on the chapter selection screen when the “Gates of Hell” become accessible.
  • Even if the player already has access to the Gates of Hell or has already received one or two keys, they will automatically receive the remaining keys when they go to the chapter selection screen after applying the update.
  • Corrections have been made to Golem treasure chests found in stages.
    • The time limits have been increased and the difficulty has been reduced.
    • The golem chest fragmentation animation can now be fast forwarded using the B-button.
  • Adjustments have been made to reduce situations with poor camera visibility.
  • Adjusted game balance.
  • Fixed a bug in Chapter 7 verse 5 that prevented progress when certain actions were performed while in control of Cheshire.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Hymn of Durga” add-on where its effect was not applied to some attacks.
  • Fixed an issue where using Alrune’s skill “Bondage Whip (P or K* long press)” would cause the enemy to instantly die in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where weapons using “Crow Within” (J* long press)” with “Scarborough Fair” and “Love is Blue” would cause the player to move forward significantly under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where Bayonetta’s animations would not play correctly when switching weapons immediately after using “Crow Within (J* long press)” with the “Scarborough Fair” and “Love is Blue” weapons.
  • Fixed a bug that caused “Black Pearl Rain (Rotate L stick + S*)” for Infernal Demon “Kraken” to launch “Wink Slave” with abnormally high attack power.
  • Fixed a bug that caused “Devil Rodin” to get stuck for a while when using “After Burner Kick (↑K* in the air)” continuously, immediately after standing up with the previous “After Burner Kick (J・K*)”.
  • Fixed a bug where Viola’s Assault Slave could summon Hell Demons in “areas forbidden to Hell Demons”.
  • Fixed an error in the hand symbol seen in Cutie J’s transformation sequence that can be seen in the side chapter.
  • Fixed other issues to make the game more enjoyable to play.

*P is a punch, K is a kick, S is a shoot, and J is a jump.
