The biggest Bethesda update yet Doom and DoOM II across all platforms – including Nintendo Switch – have officially come out. Includes supplemental support – including John Romero's 5th edition of an unapproved book, 60fps support, additional rate options, instant saving and load, quality selection, and "quality" quality of life features and workflow success.
Below are the full notes from the Bethesda.net forum:

Add-on Support: Add-ons can now be downloaded and played from the main menu. We will continue to add mixed content for the official DOOM and DoOM 2 additions, as well as some of the best public episodes and megawads released in the original DOOM games. We have narrowed down the priority list and will ask you guys to choose the best battlefields yet! See the FAQ below for more details!
60 FPS Support: For the first time, DoOM and DoOM II now run at 60 FPS across all platforms, instead of 35 FPS as per the original release.
Extra Rating Limit Option: Stretch the screen directly to match the original 4: 3 rating of the game it was designed for.
Quickly Added Load: Pause the game, then press R / R1 / RB to save it immediately, and end the game. Upload your instant save by skipping the game and pressing L / L1 / LB.
Select Selection Level: Select the score, map and difficulty of your choice, and play right away without clearing previous levels first.
Added Weapon Carousel: You no longer need to rotate through all the weapons to get to the one you want. Press the Previous or Next Weapon to highlight the weapon you want, and it will quickly rotate with the selected weapon.
Added Select Quick Weapons: The Directional Pad is now used to swap quickly between weapons.
- Above: Shotgun and Super Shotgun
- Right: Chaingun
- Bottom: Rocket Launcher
- Left: Plasma gun
Bright and Bright Contrast Level: Make the light stand out to make the colors stand out, but if that's not enough, you can also raise the Level brightness to change the light of the world.
Added Random SFX Pitch Change: Turn off random audio arrows during playback, which was a feature of these early versions of the original DOOM release.
New splint screen: Minor HUD will be used when playing multiplayer screen. The status bar is removable, allowing more game space to be displayed.
Changes:
Translated Health Images: The pill has been changed to green, making the paintings closer to their original look.
Wolfenstein's Modified Secret Level: Enemies on the Wolfenstein level have been restored to the original DOS release. The original design and sound of the enemy have been re-added to this level, but with the (off) references removed.
Functional Activation:
- A number of DOOM software rendering functionality is made to better support 60 FPS and extend battery life.
- The game resolution on the Nintendo touch screen is now showing at 640×400 to support 60 FPS and improved battery life.
- Improved behavior when starting the game in sleep mode. There may still be cases that cause the game to lock after waking up.
- Set different UI images to make navigation faster through menus.
Fix:
- Fixed a problem from the original DOS release when the map items would not properly track the player after loading the saved game. This also fixes occasional crashes by loading a saving game with an active BFG projectile.
- Fixed an issue where the game skipped multiple tics after an inactivity.
- Fixed an issue where the drag mode demo would approve, and then the demo play came out of the original DOS release.
- The "When I'm With You" poster to hit all levels in Nightmare in cooperative mode has been snapped up and will now be presented properly.
The size of the Switch to game changer is said to be 378 MB. There is also a significant problem with the feasibility of DOOM II:
DoOM II Achievement / Trophy "City" (Beat all city levels – MAPS 12-20) does not open when it takes secret to exit MAP15: Industrial Area On the Single Marriage Campaign. Workaround – If you are shooting at that medal, please choose to skip the subtle exit at MAP15: Industrial Area and you should have no trouble finding it after completing MAP20.
Beyond that, there is a complete FAQ on the forum regarding add-ons, and Bethesda says it will release most of it "regularly" over the next few months, so keep an eye out for more content. For more rays about add-ons, check out ours existing posts.
